D.I.Y Lipstick holder | Tutorial.

So, anyone like me who knows how addictive subscription boxes can be or who owns a lot of make up will know just how hard it is to store it all or get rid of the empty boxes because of how pretty and sturdy they are.

I thought I had solved that issue recently when I used some empty subscription boxes as drawer organisers to store all of my make up they all slotted in nicely and I now had nice little compartments for all of my different make up items “brilliant” I thought….. that was until every time I opened the drawer every single one of my lipsticks would fall over having OCD this was a real issue for me, as having them laying down wasn’t an option, I need to have them stood up on there tops so I can see what every shade is and picking up and putting them back upright every morning when I needed to go in the drawer was becoming tedious.

That was until yesterday when I came up with a really simple yet effective way to keep them stood up and organised that would probably cost you pennies if that as you more than likely will have the things needed laying around the house.

The first thing you will need is an empty box I used an old subscription box, but don’t worry a small shoe box or an ice cream carton can work too as long as it is square or rectangular and fits in the space you need it to then great.

Your also going to need a ruler, scissors, card, cereal boxes will do but I had some old card left from my wedding crafts so used that & your selection of lipsticks for sizing purposes.

Now the next thing you want to do is put 1 row of lipsticks along the width of the box and 1 going up the length and count each row and note down how many there were.

So, in this instance I could fit 5 along the short edge and 6 up the long one.

You now need to measure the shortest edge as pictured below.

Mine Measured 12 CM you now need to take your ruler and 1 piece of card and measure your figure from the bottom left corner inwards toward the centre and make a make at this point.

      Once this is done you need to then measure the depth of the box, this is so you know how tall to make your inserts my box was 5 cm tall but to make it easier to pick the lipsticks out I will use a slightly smaller measurement of 4 CM. Now taking the same piece of card you that you marked your first measurement on at the left hand bottom corner again you are going to measure upwards with your depth measurement so for me that was 4 CM so I have measured out 12 CM and up 4 & with your markings in place you now need to join them together like so.

You now need to make the markings of where you need to cut so what you will need to do is divide your original measure many lipsticks you can fit in that smallest row so for me that was 12 divided by 5 which gave me a total of 2.4 CM. On the card within the box you have just created you need to mark 2.4 CM equally 4 times so if for instance if you can fit 7 lipsticks in your small row you will make 6 equal marks you always mark 1 less than your lipstick count.

Now you need to measure and mark from each point you made EXACTLY half of the depth of the box so I now have 4 x 2 CM marks on my card and that leaves you with one complete short side template which you should now carefully cut out.

Once cut out you need to make slots take the scissors & make 2 cuts 1 up either side of every 2 CM mark being careful to cut no further than the mark. Your template should now look like this.            

This divider will sit in-between every lipstick in the long row so again using the 1 less rule I repeated the process making a further 4 dividers as my long row fits 6 using the 1 less rule that means I needed 5 short dividers all together.

Now taking the previous steps we need to make the Long dividers these will sit in-between the short row lipsticks my short row fits 5 so this means I will need 4 long dividers you make the long dividers in exactly the same way as the short except rather than the longest edge being 12 CM like the short divider mine was 15 CM as that is how long my box was so measure the longest part of your box for the correct length – all other measurements are the same. once completed they should look something like this.

Now you quickly just need to check that all your dividers fit snug in the box so one by one just pop them in if it seems a little tight just trim about 1mm at a time off 1 edge until they should fit nicely.

Once trimmed and fitting nicely comes the part I found the trickiest and that was slotting them together but with a bit of patience you will get there in the end and it should look something like this >>>>>>>

Once slotted together all that is left to do is simply place the completed divider into your box and pop in your lipsticks .

And like me you will have a cheap budget friendly Lipstick organiser.

You Beauty Discovery Box | April 2015.

With the YOU BEAUTY discovery box being One of the cheapest subscription boxes on the market at the minute retailing at £6.95 inclusive of P+P  and having full size products from illamasqua and vintage cosmetics up for grabs in March it seemed like a definite winner to me and I loved my first box in March which contained a full sized illamasqua Lipstick.

The YOU BEAUTY box is slightly different to other beauty boxes in the fact that you get to pick 2 of your own products and then normally there are some little extras thrown in it hasn’t quite got the element of surprise like some of the others but still for the price it seems nice to pick your own products that perhaps elsewhere would cost more than the price of the box itself.

So, after a cracking first month in March I was excited to see what YOU BEAUTY had in store for Aprils box as soon as I woke up on the 1st I logged on to You Beauty to check the store and I literally thought they were playing some sort of April fools with it being the 1st and all that but no my high hopes were instantly dashed. Aprils theme was Organic & Relaxed with 9 products on offer and 5 being sample sized one of the full sized being a sponge and another of the full sized being sold out …. already!! I didn’t really have much choice as I refuse to pay near on £7 for 2 samples.

The First product I picked was the Scentered Sleep Well Therapy Balm.

With Palmarosa, Lavender & Ylang Ylang the sleep well balm is a therapeutic balm to clear the head and quieten the mind. I have yet to try this product but will be sure to let you know what I think of it when I do.

The last product I chose was the Spa To You Konjac Sponge.

The Spa to you Konjac sponge is made from 100% pure, natural and organic Konjac dietary fibre. Unbelievably soft and gentle, it is ideal for bringing back the natural glow and softness of the skin with daily usage. Fabulous for deep cleanses, exfoliating, as well as hydrating and moisturising the skin.

Again I am yet to use this product the one thing I will say is it feels kind of damp and squidgy inside the packet so I am excited to give it a go.

The 2 sample extras this month were a 5ml sachet of YOURS TRULY ORGANICS Fix Me! Repairing Serum and a 1 serving pack of Linwoods Cocoa and Berries Flaxseed which I have already used and it did add a nice sweetness to my smoothie so that gets a thumbs up from me.

All in all I wasn’t all that impressed with the choices from You Beauty this month, but I will stick with it for May before I decide whether or not to cancel my subscription.
